When we suggested to the owner to stop fishing the halibut chicken hole and allow more time with bait for larger (bigger than 10lbs) halibut he became indignant and angry. He also insisted that we share our catch with others on the boat. Our boat skipper was confused on this arrangement from the beginning.
Lastly, we have yet to hear from the fish processor soon to be a week after our trip. As long time Alaskan residents, we spent a lot of money flying there and renting a car and house and are disappointed with this type of one and done charter service. If you are a serious fisherman, look first at western kodiak island for a much better adventure.

  I've traveled quite a bit and been fortunate enough to be hosted by some pretty phenomenal guides in my time. But my experience with Captain Dave, his son Sky and... read more his beautiful bride Kathy was simply one of the very best adventures in my life.
On our first day out, we trolled for salmon. And we absolutely crushed our numbers. We reeled in Kings and Silvers all day long. Captain Dave knew exactly where we would find them that time of year. The Silvers fought the hardest, and I simply cannot convey in words the thrill of reeling in one of those monsters. Sky was so good about getting the gear prepped and in the water, and keeping the action on the entire time.
On our second day we went after the halibut. I've never been halibut fishing before, but Capt. Dave showed us exactly the technique we needed to bring in a beautiful harvest of huge halibut. We even caught two octopuses late in the day.
We left Kodiak with 125 pounds of salmon, rock fish, ling cod, halibut and octopus. We will eat like kings for the rest of the year.
But more importantly, we left Captain Dave with a lifetime of unforgettable memories and fellowship.
Captain Dave is THE MAN!

We headed out to the halibut grounds while others were still working for their salmon. The halibut were just as plentiful! Captain Dave and his crew were so fun to fish with! If you are headed to Kodiak this is the outfit to talk to, they will treat you right.
